A recent podcast on indiewire focuses on the film “Moonlight” directed by Barry Jenkins. This podcast is very interesting because Jenkins focuses on the topic of actors. This film has three leads, which makes it complicated when it comes to casting actors. The most unique part of his casting process was that rather than looking at their physical appearance, Jenkins focused on the actors eyes. He stated that “it was all about the feeling.” The casting director as well as Jenkins asked themselves ” Can these guys feel alike.” I found this very interesting and also very difficult when thinking that he is not only finding one actor to fit the role, but actually three. I think that Barry Jenkins explains very well why he chose the actors he did. I agree that his approach is very effective in casting his actors.
