A recent indiewire podcast, starring Anne Thompson and Eric Kohn talk about Anne’s experience at CinemaCon 2017. According to Anne, CinemaCon, located in Las Vegas, is intended to have theatre owners are sitting in a colosseum, and each studio is putting on a show. The marketing of the movies is part of what the exhibitors need to do to sell to their customers. Watching the new stuff they haven’t seen before they are calculating what the movies will be that work for them. The studios, such as fox looks very strong right now and put on the best shows. Warner brothers, sony, and paramount on the other hand are in transition and put on a different kind of show. Disney is on the top of the food chain and have the biggest number. One thing that is interesting is that according to Anne, you make the most money through theaters. With the new phase of streaming with Netflix, etc, I agree and find it interesting that with all of the news focused on other outlets, Theatre’s continue to have the biggest impact today.
